LYMPNE AIRFIELD HISTORY SOCIETY
Our next meeting takes place on Tuesday 12th July at Lympne Castle. Aviation historian David Goldsmith will present an overview of the many attempted and attained record breaking flights around the globe during the 1920's and 30's.
Many famous names of the period; Amy Johnson, Jean Batten, Charles Scott, Jim Mollison, Charles Kingsford Smith, H. L. Brook, Tommy Rose, Jimmy Broadbent, Bert Hinkler, Lady Mary Heath, the Duchess of Bedford and Leonida Robbiano being just a few of them. It was a period when these aviators were as famous as Premiership footballers are today. Time and time again they chose Lympne to launch their attempts. In a busy few days in 1933, three such flights were made from Lympne, with the participants staying at the County Members over night. Only one of these pilots lived to tell the tale.
If you would like to make a future presentation on any aspect of Lympne Airfield's history, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.
The meeting starts at 7.30pm in the East Bar of Lympne Castle. There is no charge, so please feel free to join in the celebration of our very own aviation history. Thanks to Rod and Richard at the castle. For more information contact:
