Our May 1st meeting features a presentation by John Simpson. We take a fascinating look at the Dambusters Raid, looking at true accounts of things that did not appear in the famous 1950’s feature film. The survival of three crew members on the raid, the connections with Kent, the last Lancaster to return, the Sorpe and other dams targeted, the weapon itself and who actually cracked the Mohne Dam, will all be covered. A recently discovered connection with Lympne has also been found together with more facts about Kent in general.
We will also have news of the impending fight for the survival of Lympne Airfield, once again under threat.
Our July meeting will feature American aviator Charles Lindbergh, the first man to fly solo nonstop across the Atlantic in 1927. He was no stranger to Lympne Airfield, which will be explored by presenter David Goldsmith.
All meetings start at 7.30pm sharp.
Please feel free to enjoy our continuing celebration of our Airfield in the wonderful surroundings of Lympne Castle’s East Bar. There is no charge. Thanks to our generous hosts Richard and Rod at the castle.
