The March 6th presentation by John Simpson was another well attended meeting as the story of Amy Johnson, was told and illustrated with over a hundred photographs. Recent discoveries of more flights made from Lympne were interwoven into her story detailing her early life, her major international flights, some from Lympne, and the mystery surrounding her last flight and death.
It was also announced Lympne resident Rob Beale is to join John Simpson and David Goldsmith as our regular presenters. Coupled with our guest presenters, this secures our strength and coverage for future meetings.
Before this takes full effect John will present our May 1st meeting. The subject matter is a fascinating look at the Dambusters raid, looking at true accounts of things that did not appear in the famous 1950’s feature film. The survival of three crew members on the raid, the connections with Kent, the last Lancaster to return, the Sorpe and other dams targeted, and who actually cracked the Mohne Dam, will all be covered.
All meetings start at 7.30pm sharp.
Please feel free to enjoy our continuing celebration of our Airfield in the wonderful surroundings of Lympne Castle’s East Bar. There is no charge. Thanks to our generous hosts Richard and Rod at the castle.
